Sulfuric Acid
Sulfuric Acid is the largest quantity produced chemical in the United States. It is soluble in all proportions in water, and has many uses. About 70 percent of sulfuric acid is used in the manufacture of fertilizers. Nine percent is used in mining and the treatment of metals, six percent is used in refining petroleum, and five percent is used as an oxidizing and dehydrating agent in chemicals, paints and pigments. The remainder is used in the processing of pulp/paper, textiles, in water treatment for pH control, and in other products.
